I was trying to figure out how I would be able to stop spam bots from crawling my websites and extracting those mailto links. It has been a previous problem on my other sites and wanted to start fresh and clean with schindyguy.com
After a simple Google search of mailto obfuscation I found this site that would convert my regular old email address into a mailto link I can feel a little better about using
But be fair warned from the author:
Please note that ALL this tool does is take standard ASCII and convert it to something that will render visibly in a web page but which spambot spiders will be less able to read. It is not 100% foolproof, as there are a few spiders that can, apparently, figure it out, but it is a means of somewhat safeguarding your address for use in a web page.
So next time you need a more SPAM proof solution to those mailto links, be sure to use this tool or something similar.
